Lemons are a great natural kitchen cleaner for a variety of household jobs. The citric acid in this tiny fruit cut through grease and stains easily. It may be the most affordable kitchen cleaner you’ll ever use.

Here a few ways to use this small, but powerful cleaning tool.

1. Countertop Scrubber– this technique is used in Japanese restaurants after the chefs cook each meal. Take half a lemon, place it open side down on the surface, and rub in a circular motion. Then wipe the surface with a wet rag or sponge to finish the job. Have a really tough stain? Dip the open side lemon in baking soda, shake off the residue, and rub on the counter or stove.
2. Cutting Board Sanitizer– Use the other half of the cut lemon and rub it on your cutting boards. Let it sit for about thirty minutes, and then wash it off with warm soap and water. It helps kills the hidden germs that sometimes remain on your board even after repetitive washes.
3. Disposal Cleaner– Once you’re done with your lemon, throw it in your garbage disposal and flip the switch while running water. This cleans your disposal and leaves a fantastic fresh scent behind!

The key with using lemon in any cleaning is to follow up the use with warm water, whether down your drain or soaked in a sponge. Pure lemon juice can discolor marble and stainless steel if it isn’t diluted at the end of the cleaning process.
