Don’t Miss These Three Tasks When Cleaning Your Home
It’s easy to forget certain parts of the home when you’re cleaning. We always remember the big things- vacuum, mop the floor, clean the bathroom, and wipe down any surfaces. Yet there are other places people tend to overlook because it isn’t staring us in the face. Here are three tasks to remember when you clean your home.
- Fans: One of the most used items in your home, cleaning your fan blades is essential to the health of the homeowner. Dirt particles tend to collect on the blades, especially if you have it going for hours on end. It’s important to wet a rag or paper towel and wipe them clean. If the dirt is allowed to re-circulate, your health may be at risk since it can be inhaled as you move about your home.
- Walls and Ceilings: If you have high ceilings, this job is best left to a professional but you can at least keep the walls of your rooms clean by making sure it is dust free, particularly the corners of the room. Dust tend accumulate along the crevices of the wall and ceiling. A great tool to help with this is the Swiffer dry. I’m not a fan of the Swiffer wet, but the dry is very effective at clearing this dust away without forcing you to climb a chair in order to reach the ceiling.
- Air Vents: this is the number one overlooked task because many don’t see the danger in not cleaning them. This is an important task particularly for people with asthma and sinusitis. Dirt and other debris collect in the vents and can obscure the flow of air. It also starts pushing the dirt back in to the home which affects the inhabitants of the home. Keep these wiped clean and breathe easy.
Instead of buying a cleaner for the task, make your own. Mix 1 part white vinegar with 4 parts water and wet a rag or paper towel with it. Then get to wiping! Make sure to put a scarf or face mask over your nose and mouth to stop any dust from entering your body.
